Many people may develop tricuspid valve stenosis, which is caused by increased pressure in the veins, causing blood from all organs in the body to return to the heart except for the lungs, which can cause the heart to decline.
Some patients may have both valve stenosis and valve stenosis, and in some cases, valve stenosis alone is rare but is associated with bicuspid valve disease or aortic valve disease.

Tricuspid valve stenosis may cause many symptoms, such as the following:

- Tightness in the abdomen.
- Excessive pulse in the neck.
Causes and risk factors for tricuspid valve stenosis
This disease is due to several reasons, such as the following:
- Rheumatic fever, the most common cause.
- Darn (Atresia).
- Carcinoid syndrome.
This problem is more prevalent in India, Pakistan, and other third world countries, and it is more prevalent in women.
Complications of tricuspid valve stenosis
In some cases, tricuspid valve stenosis may cause heart failure, depending on the severity of the condition.
The diagnosis of tricuspid valve stenosis
Tricuspid valve stenosis is diagnosed by the following:
- physical examination
During the physical examination, the doctor listens for the sound of the valve opening and for a diastolic Murmur along the lower left border of the sternum.
These sounds increase in strength during inhalation, while lying on the right side or on the back, or when the patient's legs are raised during the examination, as these activities increase blood flow to the heart through the large veins.
- Electrocardiogram check
An electrocardiogram is done, in which the presence of atrial fibrillation and signs of right atrial enlargement on the sinus rhythm indicate tricuspid valve stenosis.
- echocardiogram
In the examination of the echocardiogram, right atrial enlargement, signs of central venous congestion, and limited opening of the condensed valve leaflets, so that their movement and separation from each other is limited, can be noted.
- Doppler examination
Sometimes a Doppler test can be used to measure the pressure between the right and left ventricle.
Tricuspid valve stenosis treatment
Tricuspid valve stenosis is treated in several ways, such as the following:
- Medications, such as: diuretics.
- Determine sodium consumption.
- Surgical treatment.
Generally, surgery is used if the mean pressure gradient is more than 5 mmHg, or if the valve area is less than 2 square centimeters.
During the surgery, the adhesions are separated between the edges of the septal leaf, and between the front and back leafs, and the adhesions between the front and back leafs are not separated in order to avoid a strong dimple.
It is possible to replace the valve with a biological replacement, as the artificial valve is usually more prone to blockage due to the tendency to form blood clots on its surface.
In some cases, the valve is opened by inserting a balloon into the so-called catheterization process.
Prevention of tricuspid valve stenosis
In most cases, it is recommended to adopt a diet low in sodium and low in fat, as these foods increase the risk of developing the disease.
